INITIAL PSYCHIATRIC EVALUATION 🧠⚕

WHAT IS A PSYCHIATRIC EVALUATION?

  • It is a comprehensive assessment conducted by a mental health professional to understand an individual's mental and emotional well-being.

PURPOSE OF THE EVALUATION:

  • Diagnose: Identify and diagnose any mental, emotional, behavioral, or developmental disorders.

  • Treatment Plan: Develop a personalized and effective plan, which may include therapy, medication, or other interventions.

EVALUATION PROCESS INCLUDES AN INTERVIEW ABOUT:

  • Current symptoms including duration, severity, and triggers.

  • Personal and family history of mental health conditions.

  • Medical history including any physical health conditions or medications that could be contributing to the symptoms.

  • Social and environmental factors that may be impacting mental health, such as relationships, work, or school.

MEDICATION MANAGEMENT 🧠 ⚕

A Medication Management appointment is a follow-up visit with a mental health professional to monitor and adjust an individual's psychiatric medications.

PRIMARY GOAL:

  • Assess effectiveness: Determine if the medication is working as intended to manage symptoms.

  • Monitor for side effects: Identify and address any unwanted or adverse reactions to the medication.

  • Adjust dosage or medication type: Make changes to the prescription based on the patient's progress and feedback.

  • Provide education: Ensure the patient understands how and when to take their medication, potential side effects, and why the medication is being used.

FOLLOW-UP APPOINTMENT🧠⚕

A Psychiatric Follow-Up appointment is a scheduled meeting with a mental health professional after an initial evaluation or during an ongoing course of treatment.

PRIMARY GOAL:

  • Monitoring patient's progress: The provider will ask about any changes in a patient's symptoms since the last visit.

  • Discussion of progress: It's an opportunity for the patient and provider to discuss how the treatment plan is working, to address any challenges, and to make any necessary adjustments.

  • Building a therapeutic relationship: These regular check-ins help strengthen the patient-provider relationship, which is crucial for successful long-term treatment.

Psychotherapy....

Motivational Interviewing

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a collaborative counseling approach focused on strengthening a person's internal motivation and commitment to a specific behavior change. It works by helping clients resolve their ambivalence rather than telling them what to do. MI is often used to prepare a client for the action-oriented tools provided by other therapies, such as CBT.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a structured, short-term therapy centered on current issues rather than past events. The main goal is to help individuals recognize their cognitive distortions (e.g., "I'm a failure") and actively work with the therapist to challenge and replace those unhelpful thoughts with positive, realistic ones. This process ultimately aims to change how a person feels and acts.

Person-Centered Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Person-Centered Therapy

Person-Centered Therapy (PCT) is a belief-based counseling method asserting that individuals will reach their potential in a supportive setting. It is client-led (non-directive), with the therapist's role being a non-judgmental facilitator who offers a safe space for the client to explore their own feelings and find their own solutions. The overall aim is to promote self-acceptance and strengthen the client's reliance on their internal resources for positive growth.
