My name is Heather Bisca and I am a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) providing virtual mental health care to teens and adults across Pennsylvania. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from Holy Family University. I earned my Master of Science in Nursing Degree from Walden University, graduating with a 4.0 GPA, and have over 14 years of experience in a variety of psychiatric settings, including emergency departments, inpatient and outpatient psychiatric units, detox/rehab centers, and private psychiatric practices.
WHAT IS YOUR PRACTICE SPECIALTY?
I specialize in medication management combined with psychotherapy treating anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and insomnia, to name a few. Drawing from my diverse clinical background and personal understanding of mental health challenges, I offer compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to each individual. My approach emphasizes collaboration, education, and empowering clients to actively participate in their own healing and growth.
WHAT LED YOU TO BECOME A PMHNP-BC?
My path to becoming a mental health provider has always felt deeply personal. From the very beginning of my nursing career, I knew I would end up in the psychiatric field; it’s where my heart has always been. Mental health has touched my life in so many ways. I’ve seen the effects of anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and addiction up close through family and friends. Those experiences opened my eyes to the courage it takes to face these challenges every day. I didn’t just learn about psychiatry in classrooms or from textbooks; I learned from real people and real stories. I lived it. I’ve witnessed both the pain and the resilience that come with mental illness, and that perspective drives me to make a difference. I want to be the person who listens without judgment, who helps someone feel seen, safe, and understood. For me, this work isn’t just a career; it’s a calling rooted in empathy, connection, and hope.
WHAT ARE A FEW OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS?
Before I became a registered nurse, I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from The University of the Arts as a dance major. I will always be a huge supporter of the creative and performing arts. I love all types of music and enjoy going to concerts. I am also a huge animal lover, and had all kinds of pets throughout my life and can’t imagine a home without a furry friend around. My favorite color is orange and my favorite place to vacation is Hawaii.
“I didn’t just study mental health; I lived it.
That lived experience fuels my passion to help others find hope, strength, and healing of their own.”

WHAT IS A PSYCHIATRIC EVALUATION?
PURPOSE of the EVALUATION:
EVALUATION PROCESS INCLUDES AN INTERVIEW ABOUT:
A Medication Management appointment is a follow-up visit with a mental health professional to monitor and adjust an individual's psychiatric medications.
PRIMARY GOAL:
A Psychiatric Follow-Up appointment is a scheduled meeting with a mental health professional after an initial evaluation or during an ongoing course of treatment.
PRIMARY GOAL:

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a collaborative counseling approach focused on strengthening a person's internal motivation and commitment to a specific behavior change. It works by helping clients resolve their ambivalence rather than telling them what to do. MI is often used to prepare a client for the action-oriented tools provided by other therapies, such as CBT.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a structured, short-term therapy centered on current issues rather than past events. The main goal is to help individuals recognize their cognitive distortions (e.g., "I'm a failure") and actively work with the therapist to challenge and replace those unhelpful thoughts with positive, realistic ones. This process ultimately aims to change how a person feels and acts.

Person-Centered Therapy (PCT) is a belief-based counseling method asserting that individuals will reach their potential in a supportive setting. It is client-led (non-directive), with the therapist's role being a non-judgmental facilitator who offers a safe space for the client to explore their own feelings and find their own solutions. The overall aim is to promote self-acceptance and strengthen the client's reliance on their internal resources for positive growth.
